Refugee Youth THRIVE

is a comprehensive initiative designed to help immigrant and refugee youth in New Castle County overcome the barriers that prevent them from building secure, self-sufficient futures. Grounded in language access, cultural inclusion, and community engagement, the program equips youth 25 and under with the tools to flourish, academically, socially, and emotionally. as they grow into confident, contributing members of their new communities.

Training

THRIVE begins by addressing the most immediate barrier: language. Youth receive bilingual tutoring, English language classes, and targeted workforce readiness training. This ensures participants can succeed in school, communicate effectively, and prepare for future employment.

Health

Recognizing the emotional weight of migration, THRIVE partners with mental health professionals and community clinics to provide accessible counseling. trauma-informed support. and health education. Physical and mental wellness are treated as core components of long-term stability and belonging.

Resilience

Through family engagement and case management. THRIVE fosters household stability and confidence in navigating American systems. Parents are supported through financial literacy and ESL classes. creating an environment where youth can focus on growth rather than survival.

Integration

Youth are actively connected to after-school programs, sports. arts, and community events where they build friendships and cultural understanding. These activities are designed to reduce isolation and bridge divides between immigrant and local-born peers.

Voice

THRIVE helps participants discover their strengths and express their identities. Leadership workshops and creative projects empower youth to speak for themselves, share their stories, develop and use their gifts. and take part in civic and community initiatives.

Education

Through school partnerships. tutoring, and academic mentorship, THRIVE ensures every student is on track for high school graduation and post-secondary success. Bilingual case managers help families navigate enrollment, special programs, and scholarship opportunities.
